Frequently Asked Questions
Chalet V lies on the sunny Plateau de Villy, at the entrance of La Tzoumaz, in the heart of Valais between Martigny and Sion. La Tzoumaz is part of the 4 Vallées ski area.
By car – Take the A9 motorway to exit 24 Riddes and follow the road up to La Tzoumaz (about 15 km, 20 minutes). The chalet has its own private parking, and 3 covered parking spaces next to our ski room at the gondola. Tip: some GPS systems still use the old name “Mayens-de-Riddes” (postcode 1918).
By train and bus – Take the train to Riddes station in the Rhône valley (about 12 minutes from Martigny). From there, a bus or a short taxi ride brings you up to La Tzoumaz. Timetables are on sbb.ch.
By plane – The nearest airports are Sion (30 km) and Geneva (160 km, about 1 h 45 min by car). Zurich, Basel-Mulhouse and Milan Malpensa are alternatives. Ask us about private transfers from the airport.
Yes. La Tzoumaz is seamlessly integrated into the 4 Vallées, one of Switzerland’s largest ski areas with more than 400 km of slopes. From the village, the La Tzoumaz–Savoleyres gondola takes you up the mountain, and the new Télémixte lift now links Savoleyres directly with the Verbier slopes (the first section opened in December 2025, the full connection is planned for December 2026).
For experienced skiers, the legendary off-piste route through the Vallon d’Arbi still exists: it brings you from the Lac des Vaux sector above Verbier all the way down to La Tzoumaz, finishing next to the gondola.
By gondola: in winter and summer, the lifts run during the day and take you from La Tzoumaz to Verbier in about 30 minutes.
By car: about 25 minutes in summer and about 55 minutes during the rest of the year.
The Savoleyres gondola is only a 3-minute drive (about 2.3 km) from the chalet, the gateway to the 4 Vallées ski area. Chalet V has private parking at the chalet and covered parking spaces next to our private ski room at the gondola.
Our guests’ experience: it is the closest thing to ski-in, ski-out. Your skis and boots stay in the private ski room at the gondola, so you never carry equipment back and forth. Leave the chalet in your normal, comfortable shoes, drive three minutes, park right next to the ski room, put on your boots and you are on the slopes. At the end of the day it works the same way in reverse: boots off, back into the car in your normal shoes, and home to the warm chalet.
If you prefer not to drive, we can also arrange an in-resort driver service to and from the gondola (see our Concierge page).
While Verbier is famous for its bustling party scene, La Tzoumaz offers the ultimate best-of-both-worlds experience. You get direct access to the world-class 4 Vallées ski area, combined with a peaceful, authentic alpine retreat to return to at the end of the day.
Here is why many guests prefer staying on the La Tzoumaz side:
- Peaceful Nights & Restful Sleep: Verbier’s legendary nightlife often carries on until the early hours. La Tzoumaz is a quiet, family-friendly village designed for deep relaxation and quiet alpine nights
- Fewer Crowds & Shorter Queues: Enjoy noticeably quieter pistes, less crowded slopes, and minimal lift wait times—even during peak holiday weeks
- Superior Snow Retention: Because much of La Tzoumaz’s ski terrain is north-facing, the snow stays crisp and in excellent condition longer, making the scenic run back down to the village a pure pleasure
- Smart Value: Enjoy the exact same vast ski domain, but without the heavy price premium that comes with staying in Verbier
Simply get in touch with our concierge service, who will be delighted to organise your booking and help you plan every detail of your stay, from your dates and preferred formula to transfers, ski passes and any special requests. Booking process: once your dates and formula are agreed, we will send you a rental agreement to read, sign and return to us. We will then countersign it and send you the initial invoice.
Payment: payments are made by bank transfer only. We do not accept credit cards, which is how we can keep our rates competitive.
